The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Autumn Symphony Season includes four symphony concerts at Cape Town City Hall.
The season begins on Thursday 30 March with conductor Daniel Boico leading the orchestra in Respighi’s Trittico Botticelliano, Waxman’s Carmen Fantasy, and Respighi’s orchestration of Rachmaninov’s Cinq Etudes-Tableaux. David Nebel and Alexander Gilman are the soloists in Sarasate’s Navarra for Two Violins and Orchestra, while cellist Daniele Akta is the soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rocco Theme.
On Thursday 6 April, Boico returns to lead the orchestra in Khachaturian’s Waltz from Masquerade and Bartòk’s Concerto for Orchestra. Gilman returns as the soloist in Beethoven Violin Concerto.
On Thursday 13 April, Boico leads the orchestra in Stokowski’s orchestration of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue and Mahler Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”). Petronel Malan is the soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Emperor”).
On Thursday 20 April, conductor Brandon Phillips takes over for the final concert, which includes Kodaly’s Dances of Galanta and Stravinsky’s Petrushka. Avigail Bushakevitz is the soloist in Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto.
